Something Pugsley This Way Comes

Stage One of my great 2007 Pugsley Project is under way. The frameset and all the new components I’ll need have been ordered. Rick at Ready To Race bike shop put together a nice package at a good price, and provided some helpful advice on ways I could save a few bucks. He’ll build the wheels and the rest is up to me.

With a trip to Santa Fe coming up, I probably won’t be able to get this sucker rolling until late March. I’ll be lucky to get in a snow ride or two before the season ends. On the other hand, I find myself in the unfamiliar—and exceptionally sweet—position of looking forward two new seasons and two new bikes. I’ll be soaking up springtime on the new Giant road bike I bought from Paramount last fall, yet I won’t have to dread the onset of winter because I’ll have a whole new season of fat-bike riding ahead of me. What an insanely good thing.

Speaking of insane, a couple of nights ago I had a dream in which I was part of a group of people settling some sort of debate at 3 a.m. by using two small airplanes mounted on skis, a rain-slicked asphalt bike trail, and a snow-making machine “borrowed” from a ski area.

I was really eager to see how things turned out, but my wife’s alarm went off and I had to get up and take a leak.

Damn it.

I'm pretty sure something really cool was about to happen.

New road bike and a Pugsley.

Insane jealousy here.

I'm on a very lucky roll, Jill. My wife deserves major credit for being so tolerant of my addiction.

I'm jealous as well. I was gonna get a Pugsley but I put all my money into getting my new business off the ground. Maybe in a year or so I'll be able to afford a Pug

You could always roll along some beaches this summer with your super-fat tire mo-chine... Also, I believe I spied you riding up Johns Rd. the other day when I was on my way home... Good luck and keep the wheels spinning...

I thought that was you, bosskat! You were already past me before I put the face and name together.

I live at the end of Johns Rd. and I believe you may live on a street very near me... that is if you drive a 4Runner... I'm not stalking you... just have my eyes open for rigs with bikes on top... see you around!

Back off man, or I'm callin' the cops!

Me and my 4Runner live near Klatt and Ellen ... but you probably already know that, don't you? Hmmm?

very cool -- congrats on the order! I've even found myself drooling over those, but with our snow count it makes no sense....

yes sir... and I know what you had for dinner too! :) Sincerely though - I hope to see you at the last Frigid Bits if it's still set for 3/31... On another note, in the new VeloNews they talk about the Pugsley that Zabriskie has - quite the sick bike.

We have a guy in our group with a pug and I am so getting one before next fall.

They are so cool in the summer when you ride along the waterline. Only bad thing is that nobody can ride with you unless their puggin' too.

I've noticed that, DANO. That's why I decided to pug up. It's no fun watching others have all the good times. Once I pedaled a couple of fat bikes that belong to friends, I had to have one.

Wow, your wife must love you. I have 2 years left here...if I decide to extend 4 more I might think about a snowbike. Of course I have that beer homebrew habit to finance too.

I'm going to buy an Xtracycle Free Rider to for my next "bike". Sold my Thudbuster today so I'm $50 on the way there.

If you know anyone looking for a 56cm fixey let me know!

Nothing like some Surly Pugsley goodness. I don't have to tell you how much it will increase your winter riding options.....and fun! I'm still paying for mine, but I'm really happy I bought it.
