Abusive relationship

Maybe I'm just weird, but I think
there's something really cool about
beating up a good bike ...
and then cleaning its wounds
and getting it back in action.

Then again, if I'm weird we all are,
because most mountain bikers I know
get off on this odd pattern of behavior.

Weird can be good.

I like to go over every inch of my bikes and clean. Always checking tire pressure and lubing the chain.

My car however...I'll drive it thousands of miles past the recommended oil change interval, check the tire pressure every few months, wash it a couple times a year, and if it makes a weird noise I'll just turn the stereo up louder.

I'm pretty much the same way, Jeff. Plus, I never really worry about theft when I think about parking my car.

A friend once told me she thought it was odd that I seemed less worried about my car than my bikes. I said, "Well, yeah. It's just a car."

(And I really, really like my 4Runner.)

I spent a week+ in Crested Butte in '01 and left that dirt on my bike for around two years. When I finally washed the bike, I was bummed that my CB dirt was gone. I can't wait to go back one day.

My Isuzu Rodeo has one working headlight and a cracked windshield. My hardtail has carbon fiber brake levers. My officemates are stunned that I paid $100 for pedals for a bicycle...
